Dr. Waer's technical work is centered on risk analysis, design, and operations support for large municipal and industrial water treatment facilities internationally. He has academic and field experience in water filtration technologies, water and wastewater treatment, and water operations, especially startup and commissioning. He has been the lead process design engineer for plants larger than 100 million gallons per day in the United States, Chile, Australia, and Canada. As an entrepreneur, he has founded technology consulting companies in the United States and Chile.
Dr. Waer’s career has advanced from Project Chemist for the City of Philadelphia to Water Quality Superintendent for New Jersey American Water Company. Starting in 1995, he transitioned into international water engineering consulting with global water design engineering firms such as Black & Veatch and Mott MacDonald. Given Dr. Waer’s experience, he is suited for the oversight of projects related to the design and commissioning of water treatment facilities for green hydrogen generation and the integration of green energy technologies for water conveyance, desalination, and wastewater treatment.
Dr. Waer is the fifth recipient of the Abel Wolman Fellowship and received the Samuel Arnold Greeley Award from the American Society of Civil Engineers. He has a B.S. degree in Premedicine from Pennsylvania State University, an M.S. degree in Water Resources Engineering from Villanova University, and a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
